kdubya
ever tried sorting out that in a small boat in a f 4 sea, best way I know of ruining good fillets. the roe are delicate and easier to remove without bursting them ashore, also you have to weigh fish ashore for competitions the whiting were you will be pleased to know gutted at sea, no problem getting rid of guts i am out on boats all the time and the bits not used will be returned to the deep. Heads and bones are used to make stocks and soups, nothing wasted here. doc crikey wasn't being picky  force 4 = flat calm here and thats a big boat your on ( mine is a small boat!) I just head off an gut them before taking home, then do them neatly, no roe this time of year late jan to may at latest, nice fish mind, best I had this year was a 20 od lb cod and a 30 lb ling which was very much NOT wanted.
