al4x
the commercial fourtrack will do you down to the ground, close to 30mpg, go anywhere, won't break down all the time. Its more a proper 4x4 rather than the frontera which is more like a car

BountyHunter
Going against this derisory flood of negative feedback, check out the latest Total Off Road - the cover car is a Fronty, the article inside goes a long way to dispelling the snobbery which follows Vauxhalls offering. Personally I wouldn't have one purely 'cos I like at least 4 litres of American gas-guzzler under me... BH
Country_est
Sorry to but in here guys, but I have one.... It is my shooting vehicle and main family car. Wife has her motor and I have an old mondeo 4x4 for work. Had it 4 years and put 50K miles on it. Its a 2000 X plated and has 87k on it. It is Ok for me as what a day out in the field require 200 - 300 mile motorway driving and 300yds off road in fields ect. Pros, Has quite a large boot on it. Cost of 2000 fronty £5k for Disco ect you will get a 94-97. Not too under powered as is 115BHP 2.2 and does 30+mpg. Quite comfartable to drive long distances. Cons Not perma 4x4. Bulid quality not good. Not the best 4x4 but a good compromise between a car and a truck. All that said I am looking to get shot for a Passat 4motion or volvo v70AWD (diesels), and a Disco as my shooting fishing vehicle as after 3 months of wet lab in during the shooting season its starting to smell a bit. Must celan it inside & out soon.
Down South
There are only 2 things wrong with a Frontera. 1. Its a Vauxhall. 2. Its a pile of cr*p. If you can find a good Mk1 trooper 2.8 td (no rearend chassis rot) you could do a lot worse. Mine leaves my brothers landy 90 for dead all year round. enniskillen
If your thinking about the frontera,go for the 2.8td model lwb and swb, same engine as the troopers, and plenty of power and torque. Stay away from 2.3td and 2.4 petrols, both wear out the oil pump, which is £800 to replace. Also pre 95 models have leaf springs, anything after 95 has coil springs and is a much better ride. Hope this helps
