retromlc
I have a Franchi Raptor 712,and although it is for sale I really like it. Stock shape wise it seems to mirror the Beretta semi 391 series so i have shimmed the stock to match the beretta,i did this by placing both guns upside down resting on their ribs then shimmed the raptor to match the A400 I own,but the Raptor rib seems to follow the barrel in a more parrell manner and closer to the barrel, the A400 rib is higher at the action end and gets closer to the barrel at the end ,consiquently I think i shoot under the target with the Raptor causing more misses, which is why I use the Beretta more. If i shim the Raptor to raise the stock as much as possible will this help? I have pattern'd the Raptor lots of times in the field and an above adv amount of shot is above the point i'm aiming at,when the P.o.Aim is on the bead. I don't really wanna get rid of the Raptor Because whenever I dry mount it at home It feels really good, just like the A400,but i miss too much to with it too risk taking it out. Any helpful advise would be grateful.
HDAV
try shims going the other way if the Frachi is shooting high it may be you are looking low(eye-bead-target)try mounting both in front of a large mirros and compare how much eye you see in the reflection try this aiming up and down if possible
Pigsy
I seem to remember we were both having the same issue with the Raptor? Being convinced I was shooting low with mine (my sporting clay scores dropped through the floor) I re-shimmed it to reduce the angle of drop (as per the manual) and my scores did improve.......slightly. However, it wasn't enough to restore my faith, so it went to the back of the cabinet until last weekend when I though I'd give it one last try before considering selling it. Oddly I shot one of my highest scores to date??? It would seem that my issue was one of confidence and not thinking about which gun I was shooting with. Scully
Hi retromic,if the cast is the same on your Franchi as the Beretta, and it's the same height at the comb, what you could try(as someone else mentioned)dry-mounting your Franchi in the mirror, but with your eyes closed. Then open the eye which looks down the rib.If you do this a few times, with a consistent mount, you'll get a good indication of just where your stock needs to be. I use an o/u for all my shooting in season, and a semi out of season. One gun has cast, the other hasn't,and I struggle for a couple of days when I change over, but after a bit of dry-mounting I'm soon back on course. Hope this helps.
