Thumpersniper
Hi guys, being a bit of a mechana-phobe, can i run my lamp (the bulb is 12v 100w clulite) off a landrover cigg battery to save my lamp batt a bit? I have got 2000 acers to go around tonight looking for a particular problem animal so if i can get more lamp life it will be good. I have got the adapter thing but last time i used it i blew a fuse in a car so havent used it since. Its a work landrover so dont really want to fuse it all! cheers for the help
al4x
you should be able to but if it blows fuses its possible its got the wrong size fuse in the landie if not what you want is a length of cable with a lighter attachment on so you can wire it directly to the battery
snowz
yes m8 thats the norm your landy is also 12v good luck tonight

Billy.
Run it directly off the battery.
snowz
cigy lighter will do for tonight but yes really its best to run a lead directly off the landy battery but remember to put a in line fuse on the lead between the battery and the lamp
Thumpersniper
cigy lighter didnt work so put two crock clips on and ran it off the battery, great job. Killed two foxes but still didnt get the **** thats been killing sheep back out for sunrise..
snowz
Does ur ciggy socket work before? There is a fuse in the male cigarette connector on the lead for the lamp, you unscrew the end that goes in the female socket. Good result tho an how you sure you didn't get the one causing the trouble
Thumpersniper
il have to check that, when it didnt work i just cut it off and put crock clips on... a bit hasty of me but i was in an impatient mood! Yes good to clear a couple of foxes now before spring. Actually was strange, i had a squirrel call because i couldnt find my squeeker, it worked really well. I shreeked a bit on this hill and saw nothing, walked about 100yds over the brough and there were two in a small clearing which was empty when i walked through. They must have been goin for the noise. I then shot the first who was walking towards me as i squeeked from about 60yds with a .22-250 with no moderator on (holding the lamp too so cant see a thing through the scope if i have the mod on) huge bang, the second fox (which i thought would be in a different county from the bang) hardly moved, i shreeked with the thing a few times, did the bolt and shot that too very close around 35 yards broadside. Maybe no-ones been lamping here latley or something. i just know its not either of them atacking sheep.
apache
Usually the cigarette lighter socket is protected with a 10A fuse. @12V the 200W bulb is drawing 16.7A. It's not made to handle more and uprating the fuse could cause the cable to melt. You need a dedicated feed from the battery with cable that can handle 20A with a 20A fuse somewhere. Never run directly off the battery with no fuse.
al4x
is it a 200W bulb though?
snowz
It's 100w watt bulb not 200w so should be alright, works for everyone elses vehicles
apache
Yes @ 100W it will be fine. I retract my answer!
al4x
though funnily enough it isn't fine hence the problem lamps always seem to be **** through the cigarette lighter a direct wire is far better, I've been using one without an in line fuse for years and nothing has ever happened I thought I'd have had a bulb go by now but nothing
Devon Fox
though funnily enough it isn't fine hence the problem lamps always seem to be **** through the cigarette lighter a direct wire is far better, I've been using one without an in line fuse for years and nothing has ever happened I thought I'd have had a bulb go by now but nothing same here - just runs straight from battery no inline fuse, done it this way for donkeys years from various vehicles and never had an issue. Ciggy lighters are **** and nothing but trouble I have found in the past.
bigstevouk
Done a nice 3 way ciggy plug on kennyb's 4x4 the other day, straight to battery and fused worked a treat
Thumpersniper
the best thing about the landrover, battery under the seat so made it easy to clip the lamp straight on! all other features are shocking and its only 05!doors dont close properly, ciggy lighter doesnt work, had to swap fuses today to get the heater to work, ratlles and noisy and the bac door is a real dog/lamb/calf leg trapper...
