mick miller
It's a P plate but a 97'er. Very happy (although now skint).
mick miller
Anyone know a good place to buy a waxoyl spray thimgamabob (better suggestions for the chassis appreciated). Also, if anyone else is looking at a motor and wants to run a licence plate check PM me, I have one left, I can save the results as a pdf and email them to you. mick miller
She was 7k on the nose, excellent nick really, a little patch to add to the rear x-member but everything else bob on. All the history (lots of it), the owners manual, the original tool kit it's all there. I have to give it a 100k cam belt change and service (last service 5k ago) and she'll be sweet. I'm very happy as now I have a good base to improve on and tinker with. Hopefully it won't lose as much as the Passat estate I just sold (which lost the equivalent amount over 5 years as I just spent on this). Billy.
Time to take the EGR out, decat and get it tuned Probably doesn't have the first two, mind...

mick miller
Time to take the EGR out, decat and get it tuned Probably doesn't have the first two, mind... Cat is still there, so is the EGR valve, she's pretty much unmolested. There is a EGR control unit under the centre seat (it's unplugged at the EGR valve), so yes, they both need to go. Plus a bigger intercooler and tweak the pump. I thought the CAT had to stay though if already present?

I thought the CAT had to stay though if already present? If it's a diesel, it's not needed to pass a MOT. I picked up an EGR kit for about £25, well well worth it. I used to get about 40-50 in 4th, as soon as the EGR came off there was a clear difference and it can get to about 60-65 in 4th. Intercooler will set you back a tidy £400 or so. An expenditure I'm not willing to budget for. If you want some roof lights, I might be getting shot of mine, as I never use them. I'll give you them on the cheap if you want some. mick miller
EGR kit ordered. Allisport stainless CAT free downpipe next... Then, when I've managed to save enough I'll get myself a bigger intercooler and tweak the pump. That should take care of the fuel economy, performance and torque side of things. Billy.
Down pipes are about £50 on eBay. Just to save you some money. EGR removal is the best first step.
mick miller
Any links billy? And are they Stainless (thinking along the lines of fit once and forget).
Billy.
What engine is it? Different engines have different shaped pipes Fit once and forget? You'll end up with just a stainless pipe once the car's completely rusted away Edited November 30, 2010 by Billy.
mick miller
300 tdi defender 1997 vintage... Mine isn't that rusty thank you (cheeky), it'll be even less rusty once rustmaster have treated it.
Billy.
300 tdi defender 1997 vintage... Mine isn't that rusty thank you (cheeky), it'll be even less rusty once rustmaster have treated it. It's an essential part of owning a Defender - gauging how much more rust you think the car can tolerate until a bit needs replacing Even better: £17 for a decat pipe. Just check that a Disco one can be fitted, as there might be some other stuff under a Defender that might block this pipe. Search eBay for "TDi decat"
Billy.
Even better: Defender Decat Pipe - £17 Lucky so and so... It's about £60 for a TD5 Decat :( Edited November 30, 2010 by Billy.
mick miller
that's why I opted for a TDi and not a TD5
Luckyshot
I have removed my EGR valve and fitted a de-cat pipe on my 95 300tdi Defender and you certainly notice the difference in performance and a little in the noise department. As for the MOT having the de cat-pipe fitted hasn't stopped mine from passing the smoke test.
