I am getting an Air Arms S200 for christmas because I live near an alotments and rats are coming into the garden and I've got permission to shoot on a local farm and I've seen post where they say you need a license for any gun and I've seen posts that say you dont need a license if your Air Rifle shoots at 12ft/lb or under! I was just wondering which one is correct?

Thanks

Jack

However if you are planning shooting on land that you dont own or are under 18 there are rules to follow I also recommend you become a member of the BASC or BASA

And read the guides here: http://www.airgunshooting.co.uk/airgunsafety.aspx http://www.basc.org.uk/en/codes-of-practice/air-rifles.cfm If you are in scotland the law may soon change: http://www.basc.org.uk/en/media/pressreleases.cfm/prid/7AB6BB2B-DD17-4B65-B2192882CA61190F

Nice to see a young gun asking questions before wandering off into the blue yonder with an airgun-start as you mean to go on-make sure you are well practised before you try your hand at live quarry and make sure you can identify any species that you are likely to come across-by the way the S200 is one of the best rifles ever made (IMO) and if you are ever able to use it to half its potential then you,re in for a great time.

All on the BASC http://www.basc.org.uk/en/codes-of-practice/ site, Well worth joining either Basa (if under 18 have to apply to them specially) which is cheaper but BASC more well known and cheaper for under 21's, as this gives you public liability insurance to cover against the worst happening. Before you get out on the fields spend some time on a range getting to know your gun and abilities, range, hold over etc Treetops in Newport http://www.treetops-sporting.co.uk/airriflerangewales.asp has a short range and runs HFT comps there are plenty of clubs around so go along you will learn a lot contact http://www.wafta.co.uk/ for local clubs
