I was ment to be out on tuesday but with the weather being as it was i didnt bother going out. Today broke and it seemed a bit milder and wasnt snowing so packed the gear into the landy and headed off to a few fields of rape i have. I got there just gone 8.00.

When i arrived at the entrance there were alot of birds just sitting in the trees around the first field. Im lucky enough to be able to drive around each field so i went and had a look round to see what was happening. There was probably the best part of 2000+ birds in the surrounding trees and they just flew from one side to the other when i drove past.

I watched for 30 mins or so and deciced to set up next to a small copse at the edge of the biggest field with the wind going left to right. I brushed a patch of snow off the rape and started setting up my pattern. By this time it was 10.00. I placed 15 shells out on sticks and put the magnet out. The birds started showing an interest straight away but wouldnt commit to the pattern so i changed the set up several times but to no avail. After an hour of making changes i brought the magnet in and put out 2 bouncers. The birds started coming right in to the pattern almost immediately and continued to do so for the next 3 hours. Eventually they stopped coming in so i packed up at 2.30, was thankful really as i had a doctors appointment at 3.45. Turns out ive got tonsilitus but i'll be back out tomorrow on another patch ive got.

I ended the day with 48 Pigeons and a Crow.

Cheers

Ben
