Well after 3 seasons of wildfowling this morning i bagged my first Goose.

I took an associate member out this morning for a morning flight, weather conditions was dry but a bit of fog about.

We were all ready and sat in the ditch at 6.30am....by around 7ish the Geese started calling, my heart was pumping and i managed to get a shot off as the first skein of geese went over us, but i never made contact.

Plenty of geese flying either side of us plus plenty of ducks etc, then i noticed 5 Geese on to my RHS, so i grabbed my Canada call and gave a few honks and to my surprise the Geese turned and were heading straight for us.

Lifted the gun and made sure i gave plenty of lead before pulling the trigger and moving the gun, 1st shot made perfect contact and the Greylag came down to earth with a bump.

I had the associate member next to me so told him to take a shot and he also bagged his forst goose.

So a very nice morning flight and one i have been dreaming about for a very long time, as a few of you on here will know.

The excitement of calling these over and downing one of these lovely birds will stay with me for a very long time

Tomorrow I will prep it and no doubt will add it to the New Years day Lunch

O the joys of wildfowling

I went out last Weds again silly hours of the morning, driving through iced lanes and then having to walk in the snow along the foreshore for a good 30 Mins and from 6.30 until about 1500 hrs i never fired a shot, today I could of sat there all day and i think i would of had a few shots but more then happy with the Goose

Congrats mate. I'm on my first season of Wildfowling this year and shot my first goose on my 3rd outing - which was probably more luck than judgement! Its all prepped and awaiting its final moments on the dinner plate on New Years Eve. What a feeling it was getting that first one bagged though! Made the long trudge to the shooting area at 0400hrs in -4c temperatures all worth it!

Very well done, I know you have been trying for your first goose for some time, makes the wait worth while! Now you will have to make the next one a Whitefront !

Hopefully they should start showing down here pretty soon, although i know one was taken last week, seems to be loads of greylags about at present, but cant complain

Well done mate :good: , i was out this morning and heard geese but didn't catch a glimpse of them. Still managed to bag a lovely hen mallard though. Were you on frampton?

Where were you hiding to this morning Ben, as we were down in the ditch on the 3rd bend, seen a guy sat on the splash but im sure i heard a few shots further up the marsh,

I still have to get an associate i take out over to Lydney and Poulton, although i think he went to Lydney with another guy the other week.

Just start learning the bounderies as per the maps,

Frampton Marsh

100 yd marker

Wigeon pools + markers

Number of days you can visit in a period of 7 days

How many Geese you can shoot in 1 day

where and what you can shoot after Jan

Name of Bounderies

Poulton

Almost the same as above

Hill

Bounderies from the windbound centre upwards( Count the hedges)

H&S while shooting low water

Lydney

Bounderies and names

Thats the main ones to learn

Enjoy
