mfletch
I hate this Ive had shooting permission for 2 years from a elderly lady she says just shoot what you want when you want, Basically gave me the run of the fields as long as no damage to crops etc, But now the farm next door is renting the fields and has said he has his own shooters and dont want anyone else on the land, The good old lass just said sorry but its up to him now and cannot help "she did try" Why do these larger farms want all the land, Luckily I do have other permissions. Bleeh
I had a nice little stalking permission, nothing massive (about 100 acres) but nothing take the odd fallow every other month. The guy who owned it was a complete tool, and had no work ethic. He just made money by renting out everything he inherited off his dad (His Land, Part of his House, some units, etc) and spent his days razzing around the farm and buying expensive junk that he'd leave to rot in a shed (He's got a two month old Daystate, that was left in a shed and got covered in rust because he couldn't be ***** to move it, and now the action doesn't work) Anyways, I'd do bits of forestry and land work, and get the stalking in turn, I was promised it for a certain amount of time, and he said that I'd still be shooting till at least the start of the 2011 season. Well, that was all rubbish, got a text telling him he'd Sold the shooting rights to some random syndicate (Which he can't technichly do as he gave up the rights with the contract renting out the land to a farmer). I was pretty ****** off as I'd had done everything to keep him happy, but heck, what are you going to do?. But these things come and go, so after getting over the rather ****** off feeling of betrayal, I had a chat with a farmer I had started working for. Me: How much land do you own then? Him: Bout' 1700 acres. Me: Getting much problems with pigeons? Him: A bit of the rape (600 acres) is getting a hammerin' but nowt too bad till it gets a tad hotter. Me: Any chance of some shooting then? Him: Sure thing lad. Me: Oh, great, can I have your number so you know when I'm out? Him: Nah, I know what you look like, go when you want. So, needless to say, I was chuffed, the only issue is he hasn't got a farm map so getting to know the land is taking a while, but I'm getting there. I've rambled on, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's all just swings and roundabouts.

Lord Geordie
Been there myself! I was looking for permission in the NE and the majority is estate owned. I eventually got a shoot at Haydon Bridge after 3 years of trying. I had a word with the farmer and got permission etc and was told to leave it till the game season finished. I then rang him to make sure it was OK and the day I went over I was met by the farmer and told the land had been bought for a new Bypass development and the land owner was taking over the shooting for a big game shoot so having never even shot it I lost it. Then a few year back I got into Beating on a northumberland estate and for my beating for free I got Pigeon and Corvid shooting. I managed to get out there a few times but the following year the Game keeper went backrupt and I am not once more left with nowhere to shoot At least you have another permission to use
