Dunkield
Like Remingtons, Rugers are the basis of many a good gun. the most accurate gun I have shot was based on ruger, but the owner had spent loads of money and time getting it how he wanted it. If you want something that just works - get the Tikka. if you want something that may need a new trigger, stock etc etc get a remmy or a ruger.. JRDS
Don't touch a Ruger Centrefire with a bargepole. To say their shooting ability is hit and miss out of the box is an understatement and I speak from personal experience . I have had a Tikka T3 in 223 and own a 700 in 243, both top guns out of the box and the Remmy trigger is easily tweaked to a nice pull without resorting to replacement parts, ask the gunsmith to do it if you buy from a shop. gibby
Cheers for all the help, i think i will be steering well clear of the ruger... back to the T3's i think... Gibby
Venator
Hi Guys, I have a Ruger 77MKII in .270 which will give a 3 shot, ½ inch group with factory ammuntion (Prvi Partizan 130g) and easily reproduced with hand loads. This fitted with a dragon moderator. The trigger was improved by LITTS of Newport. Standard stock fitted with the barrel not free floated. This rifle is one of the first batches of MKII s’ sent to the UK. I have also used a mate’s .243 Ruger 77MKII, and this also performed very well e,g, sub ¾ inch 3 shot groups. It may be that the earlier production rifles are better that the available now.
Big Dog
I have a Ruger 77/22 All Weather. It is a nice rifle but I needed to get the trigger doctored. To be honest it would probably need a new trigger to make it good. So my advice is if you are buying a Ruger also price into it a new trigger - probably about another £100. I would go Tikka or Styer
graysclassics
I have a Ruger M77 Mk2 in .22-250 and the trigger pull is beautiful, I can not fault it in any way. The only drawback with a stainless heavy barelled laminated stock rifle is the weight, (pretty obvious really) but if it's in .22-250 you will only be using it for foxes and most of the work is done driving round lamping and then slinging it over the bonnet of the Range Rover with a Harris bipod, if you need to do much walking with it, get a sporter not a heavy barreled cannon. A Tika is no better, just different.

Mine is perfect! Now the rimfire 10/22 versions - theyre something else and should be avoided at all costs.
