DNS
Just starting to look for my first gun, primarily for clays, but potentially for game also. Excuse the potentially stupid question - but if I get a gun with 3" chambers, can I use 2.75" cartridges in it? I'm assuming 'yes', but better to look stupid and find out now than in the ambulance. Whilst I'm on: is there any real need for anything longer than 2.75"/70mm chambers?

MC
If you are only going to use the gun for clay shooting along with a bit of game or pigeon shooting then there is no need for 3" chambers. Most clay and game cartridges will either be 2 1/2" or 2 3/4". It is only when you step up to the heavier loads used for foxes or the non toxic loads used for wildfowling that you could do with 3". Personally I would buy the gun you like and not worry about chamber size. If it has 2 3/4" chambers you will be spoilt for choice for cartridges anyway. al4x
as said no need for 3" in a game and clay gun but is handy for steel if you take it wildfowling, though if you decide to go that way its probably best to get a semi auto to use
HDAV
I would say for clays steel proof is more relevant than 3" chambers but many guns come with both, it would only be an issue if there 2 guns that both fit as well and cost the same the one with 3" chambers may be a better buy IMO
MAL S
get 3" and steel proof then you cover all bases
