tom1982
Hi, Just wondered if anyone has recently processed their shotgun licence through Openshaw Firearm Department in Manchester? Im looking to find out how long it took from sending off your application to finally receiving the licence in the post? Thanks, Tom

shootnfish
hope they are more reliable than mine.when i last renewed it 5yrs ago they arranged to come and check my cabinet but never turned up , but i still got my licence. this time same thing they cost me more or less a days work was supposed to meet them at 10am waited till 12pm no sign and no answer to my calls. mannaged to get hold of the other officer who told me he could meet me at 4pm. so i went back to work then got a call at 2.30pm saying he was there waiting as he was earlier than he thought. messers, this was 2 weeks ago and i still havnt got my licence and it expired yesterday. rcooke25552
tom ring them up and just say that you are checking they have recieved your application. they will normally say yes and make an appointment with you on the phone. speeds up the process of waiting for them to contact you. Dropped a email across to them Monday and they got back to me today saying they have received my application. The guy who emailed me gave me the Ladies name whos coming to make the visit and said she will be in contact shortly to arrange a date and time. Cant wait to get out shooting some clays now. Buying a shotgun from a friend once this licence gets sorted Thanks all for posting, Tom

tom1982
Had my interview today The lady who made the visit was really nice and friendly and said the licence will turn up in the post a max of 7-10 days. So that makes it two weeks from posting my application to having the interview and 3 weeks in total to receiving the licence in the post. Thanks to openshaw firearms department and their staff for having such a great fast turn around service.

tom1982
no didnt have Mrs Hampson, had a lady that dealt with the Tameside area. i think the same as your officer, really friendly and helpful and you could tell she definately knew what she was talking about. So regarding getting out clay shooting, I know of 3 places in Manchester, Worlsey, the Grouse and Running Hill. Would anyone recommend any of these for joining as a member? Is there any other shooting grounds around manchester?
XD2
Hey, I sent mine off to them on Monday (also in Tameside) and they phoned my Countersig the next day, still waiting on them contacting me though. For places to shoot around Manchester I have been A6 Clays which is quite a friendly place and I have also been Cattonhall, but that is actually quite a drive out from our end. With the discount for members scheme you end up getting the price of membership back in savings after about then.
rcooke25552
Been to worsley. It's good, but do 3 rounds and it gets quite dull. And expensive
tom1982
A mate that really got me into this is a member at worsley, so will prob definitely be going there many times. Running Hill is closer though and seem quite a bit cheaper on membership and clays/cartridges so think I will be mixing it up and getting there as well. Just looking out for the postman at the moment, hope the license turns up today! Edited January 29, 2011 by tom1982
