Dave 101
Hi . I have been thinking of having a go at knife making , a fixed blade type which would be legal to carry when out shooting . I havent tried this before , so any thing that needs consideration in terms of difficulty , and what would be a good starting point for such a project . Any advice apprecited . Thanks Dave Edited January 16, 2011 by Dave
mfletch
Ive thought of this also using a old file. You have to use Annealing to soften it first, This template may help you.
Hornet 6
Not you as well Dave I'm going to try starting from a blank this time, not having a work area is going to be a problem for grinding. I made a few years ago when I was still in engineering, had all the tools needed including an oven for heat treatment. Made a couple from files and a few from 01 tool steel. Neil. Dave 101
What lead to this idea was I want to do some leather work , so make some knives then the sheaths , then I told the better half of my plans which also included buying an old BRNO as a project , as I have only just finished the restoration of an old Vickers Martini action rifle , all this didnt go down to well as I have a house to work on as well . I have a good supply of old files but that seems to be a lot of work to produce a knife blade . I certainly take my hat off to the guys that do this . Have been looking at the vids on you tube , works of art . Thanks for the info . Dave
johnbaz
Hello Dave Have a look at Brisa they sell kits they take paypal and will post to the UK.. I've highlighted the Enzo kits, they're fantastic quality but not especially cheap to buy, have a good look through the site as you can buy just blades or any other parts... Cheers, John
FalconFN
If you try Hennie Haynes(not sure of spelling) you can get a Karesuando knife kit, blade, wood and antler for handle, leather for sheath etc for £21. I made one and it came out pretty well.
