Metric
hi all I have just received my lee loadall and raring to get started. I am struggling to find suitable hulls from clay grounds and friends that will be suitable for reloading so i have decided to buy 1000 12g 70mm hulls. I am looking for unprimed hulls that can be reloaded 4 or 5 times. can anybody recommend a hull and supplier that will meet these requirements. In advance many thanks. Guest cookoff013
4/5 times is asking way too much from a hull. the european hulls are plastic and use twice, and discard on the 2nd firing. thats why they are cheap hulls. unprimed hulls are from siarm. 1000 for 28 euro`s. thats not alot. thin they are £70 primed from the lawman. what recipe you using? sitsinhedges
Why can't you find suitable hulls from clay grounds Reloading more than once is just plain silly and you will end up with a pile of failed crimps that need taking to bits. Now that is good advice!
Metric
hi the reason i am not having much luck finding spent cartridges at the clay ground is that most are either 65mm 67mm or eley cartridges which i have been informed are no good for reloading. If i could reload 65,67mm i could have 1000's of them but the lee loadall supposedly will not reload them that well.I am going to have a look and try and put some spacers in the last two crimping stations to see if that will allow me to reload 65,67mm hulls which will solve the problem of not being able to find sufficient hulls. You're not looking very hard. The vast majority of cases are 70mm. Eleys are to be avoided because the primer pockets are oversized and cx2000s can fall out. If you can't get any at one clay ground try another late on the weekend

Do you go with a sack and fill it up or just rumage through? I got one sack full maybe of 600-700 carts and over half are ok(well going by what info i've been given) took a while to sort them out though.I going to bin the eley's and try the Hull and other makes to see what happens. Haggis.

hawkeye
I find it funny that no one rates the Eley cases... I use a MEC9000G reloader and use eley cases all the time for my clay loads loaded with 28gr No7 and for my pigeon and crow i use white gold loaded with 30gr No6.. I have just loaded over 300 eley blues this afternoon and some of them have been loaded 2 0r 3 times i only discard them when the crimp start to split...Never had a problem and off the ones i loaded today i had only 15 where the crimps were bad and had to cut up.. :good:
Floating Chamber
Remember, Eley use several manufacturers; examine the primer pocket. Some have 'tags' pressed into the base wad; some have a clean hole in the 'brass'. The latter use a 688 primer, the former, probably a Cheddite. You can get loose primers!!!!!! The cases without the tags are Spanish and often come apart! You have been lucky so far! Edited January 22, 2011 by Floating Chamber

Mag347 reloads with a hornady think its a 566 and if he deprimes and re sizes eley cartridges with it the primer drops out so he bought a MEC resizer and now he does not have any trouble........ :good:
