Could anyone provide recipe details for 243 rounds, 55gr ballistic tip, 80 gr sp and 100 gr softpoint, inclusive of all components for costing exercise pls. Not looking for superhot, just proven recipes. If it makes much difference i use a steyr prohunter. Thanks Tabs

Redgum
Bullet heads will cost around 20pence each, powder 22pence each, primers around 3pence each. On top of that you have the most expensive item, the case, I get mine for free so I'm lucky. If you don't hot load and try and neck size as much as possible you could get 10 reloads per case, this will bring the price down. And then there is the equipment. I think it saves money as the only ammo I have bought that will match my reloads is RWS, thats £30ish per 20 but the reloading is a real enjoyable and gives you abetter understanding of how it all works. Most reloaders tend to shoot more rounds as they can't help trying new recipes.
Billy.
Was talking to a lad this morning who just paid £34 for 20 factory 243 rounds... If there was ever a time to get reloading...!
phaedra1106
Worked this out for a .308 if it's any use, 1st Batch Lapua brass 40p (Got mine from the US) 45Gr RE-15 24p PPU Primer 03p A-Max 168gr Moly bullet 20p Cost per 100rds £87 2nd batch onwards Cost per 100rds £47 PPU ammo is £56 to £70 per100 My costings can easily be reduced by using a cheaper case or bullet, the Hornady A-Max Moly coated are for long range target and quite expensive. tabs
Thanks again gents, I might as well give in to the inevitable and go for it. Anyone reloading for 243 willing to give me a head start by recomending a powder for the heavier bullet heads? Tabs
Redgum
A good universal powder for 243 managing 100gr bullets yet hot enough for the lighter stuff is H414. Recently I have been testing out some loads with Reloder 17 and it seems an extremely good powder and with a bit of fine tuning will be more accurate than H414 with the 100gr sierra prohunters. Get yourself a reloading manual before you start off, I have the Lee modern reloading 2nd addition and find that pretty good. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS START OFF WITH 10% REDUCED POWDER LOAD AND WORK UP TO YOUR MAX. My favourite loads in 243 at the moment are. 85gr sierra s/p bullet, 43grains H414, CCI lge rifle primer, OAL 2.640 87gr Hornady V max bullet, 43grains H414, CCI lge rifle primer,OAL 2.670 100gr Sierra Prohunter s/p bullet, 39grains H414, CCI lge rifle primer, OAL 2.650 100gr sierra prohunter s/p bullet, 40.6grains Reloder 17, CCI lge rifle primers OAL 2.
