discovery00
Hi, I'm just getting started at clays and looking for advice on my first shotgun. I have my SGC and a budget of about £500, but could go a tad higher if needed. I would prefer O/U single trigger multi choke. any advice would be greatly appreciated. HDAV
Lanber at that budget, but get what fits! what are you shooting? ITs easy to fall in love with an unsuitable gun, gun fit is key but as a beginner your gun mount will be useless and inconsistent and until you can mount the gun relaibly and well fitting a gun is pointless so you have a circular argument, basic things like eye dominance, build, height will dictate the basics of fit for you. I would suggest spend more on lessons with a good coach, they will often go to gunshops with you and check the fit of guns, if you ahve a shop allied to a local clay ground you can normally take the gun out for an hour and use it (when i bought mine I took 2) Still not sure i bought the right one but until i get better (must practise gun mount more and post on PW less!) it is fine has the right length, cast etc for me. General rule of thunmb is a 30" Multichoke O/U will to everything, Lanbers can be a bit heavy so if your of a slight build look at others. Quality guns Berretta Browning Miroku etc tend to hold value better than the cheaper ones. Lanber are in the middle somewhere other to look are are Winchester, Lincoln, Franchi (lightweight alloy actions). Watch for rizzini there are 3 or 4 different makers with rizzini in the name (Lincolns are made by one rizzini "I" i think). Also dont be worried about buying a 20 year old gun in good condition as it probably better made than the new ones! Something to look our for is 3" chambers and steel shot proof as this offers more flexibility (but not essential for clays) Edited February 3, 2011 by HDAV
TJ91
You will be able to pick up a very good lanber for that money and i would recommend a lanber! or a rizzini..not owned one but have heard plenty of good reports!
