HDAV
A lot depends on what (targets, rabbits, fox etc) and where (farmland, range, etc and also which county) you will be shooting if you have land its worth checking with FLO to see if it already cleared for certain calibres. Gilderoy
I've just applied for mine. I put .22lr (for rabbits, targets) and .243 (for fox and deer) When the FLO came round he said the .22lr would be fine but the land would have to be cleared for the .243 Expect to be asked alot of questions as to why you want the rifles and you'll have to convince him/her that you know your stuff on safety etc. He asked me what was the most important thing you need to check before taking the shot (backstop) and the maximum ranges of the .22 (1.5 mile) and the .243 (2.5 mile) I would surgest that you join a club first and use thier guns to get used to it and then the club owner can vouch for you to the FLO as they will know each other well. Hope this helps. Rich
jasper3
after taking into account the layout of my permission, I did'nt feel the need for 223 so ive opted for a 222 for Fox as for the rabits..short range and general work horse will be a 22LR some of the fields are long, for this ive opted for 17hmr for long range rabits and short range fox (my permission has been cleared for 22/250) make sure that you are aware of any footpaths that cross your permission, and tell the FEO that you are aware of them
