DrQ
Hi All... Reasonably new to clay shooting & enjoying it very much. I have myself a delightful old 325/G1 sporter, that`s been about a bit, but I love her dearly. Now having the Shootgun bug, I was thinking of maybe getting a nice old S/S as a 2nd gun, for a bit of fun!.... Can anyone put any make`s & models forward that would be worth looking into for around £300? Thanks very much, DrQ
Edward
AyAs are some of the best budget ones around (in my mind) You would be looking at a good yeoman/No.3 for that sort of budget or a slightly more used No.

Thanks very much, DrQ Nice choice on the 325 Bide your time and you should find an AYA No4 for about that money. There was a No4 sold on The BBS for about £120 recently, it was a gift. AYA's model range goes as follows, Yeoman:entry level boxlock non ejector with relatively plain wood. Good reliable guns. AYA No3: Boxlock non ejector, good reliable guns, a bit prettier and better engineered than the yeoman. AYA No4: Basically the same as the No3 but an ejector. Usually have wood with a bit more figuring and oval initial plate in the underside of the stock Aya's are relatively well sought after so if you buy well, it should always be worth what you paid for it, they are robust and easy to work on and parts are readily available. The choking of AYA's is easily identified on the underside of the barrels by the means of Star marks, *=full **=3/4 ***=1/2 etc. There are loads of SBS out there for that sort of money but the quality varies massively. Some of the cheaper makes tend to be rather numb and heavy so not as nice to carry as well as use. Try and have a go with a few SBS's to find out what you like/dislike. Getting the correct length of pull is a bit more critical on a straight hand stocked gun with double triggers than on a conventional pistol gripped O/U. If you get it too long it'll impeed mount and trigger control, too short and you'll likely end up bashing fingers on the trigger guard, as well as the other regular gunfit issues. Thanks Pigglet, I got the 325 for £550 off some bloke... she may only have a face for radio, but she does the job! A friend I go shooting with has an old 26" SBS ( of which I know not what?) that was his fathers... Great fun to shoot. I will look into the AYA`s & see what I can find.... HW682
I bought my AYA 4 from a dealer for £325 about a year ago. The stock does look like it has been varnished with a brush (and overlaps onto the metalwork etc). At the end of the day though it is still a no4 with the original build quality, balance etc. I am sure I could work on the cosmetics and easily get my money back anytime. As others have said, keep looking and yeah shall find... HTH HW682

UKPoacher
I have an AYA #4 and would heartily recommend ............ a Miroku MS150 or 500. I have the MS150 and it is a cracking gun; solid, reliable and looks classy. You would have to look around and haggle but it would be worth it. mattslaptop247
You can get a nice English blne for that price. I recently got a Williams and Powell for that, with its orginal leather motor case and receipt.
