Sprocker101
Just filling out my FAC, and got to the above sections, what is a reasonable amount to have in possession at any one time, and what is a reasonable amount to buy at any one time? I know it will vary person to person, but what do you have/think? I'll probably get out in the field once or twice a month. Many thanks. ps. great froum and thanks for all the help so far!! Luckyshot
Depends on what calibre you are applying for I have 500 buy 600 hold on both rimfire and 200 buy 300 hold on both centre fire. RC45
That depends on your County and your expected usage. I asked for .22lr buy 1000 and store 1200, that allows me to take advantage of the 1000 round price. The other calibres I reload!
Alycidon
Depends on your usage and of you reload. If you dont reload then around 3 months worth, if you do then a minimum of buy 100 and hold 200 per caliber. As your certificate runs on you do need to keep an eye on your ammo purchases as these will vary, not using a rifle or buying ammo for an extended period will lead to questions about need being raised at renewal. Sprocker101
I will be applying for a 22lr and a 17hmr. Devon is the county. I've heard about not buying ammo for extended period raising questions about the need to own a firearm, so wont be asking for too much..... Load of bull, whoever told you that about not buying ammo. Cheaper then, if you buy in bricks of 500 Edited February 15, 2011 by Billy. apache
Guidance to the police states 500 buy/600 hold. I put that down for both .22&.17 so I have 1000 buy / 1200 hold and no problem. if you have a justification you can have more.

A does that mean that you have to keep a record of what you buy.
Billy.
does that mean that you have to keep a record of what you buy. Yes, all ammo purchases and transfers are recorded on the licence. If you run out of space, you need to request a new sheet. Most RFDs are kind enough to write in tiny writing, to ensure you don't have to keep requesting a new sheet. Except the last one I was at, where the new girl used a whole box to fill out 100 Winnie subs Edited February 15, 2011 by Billy.
Billy.
Sprocker, don't forget to write "Expanding" next to your calibre. You'll kick yourself when you get the licence through and you can't buy any HMR ammo. Don't forget your sound mods too
Sprocker101
Thanks for the info Billy, I will write 17 hmr expanding both in the rifle calibre section and the ammo calibre section to be sure!! Cheers
CZ550Kevlar
Leave it blank and fill it in when your FEO comes round, they know what they will grant you and depending on what he says you can always negotiate it up or down. wildgoose1uk
I have 500 buy 750 hold on each calibre (308, 243 and 22). I wasn't allowed any expanding as I do not have any permissions.
