Pembrokeshire hat trick

Managed to get all my paperwork done so went for a mooch around after lunch, went to one of my smaller permissions to see if i could finally get the fox that has evaded me every morning, last night it tipped it down,so i figured no animal was out last night.

So i settled down with the dog in a corner of a field, and squeeked and squeeked and...you get the idea

Then just as i thought sod it out pops foxy, about 200 yds away,i just give little squeeks and it comes flying down the hedge line, and then cuts straight across the field, right to left,i figured it was about 80yds out,but it wasn't stopping,so a loud "OY" and it stopped and turned to look straight at me,it dropped on the spot with a blue tip in the bib.

Was a large vixen in very good condition, paced it out and it was 70 yds.The farmers wife was very happy when i showed her,as she has been losing chickens regularly.

Shot from here(there is a fox in the picture)

The obligatory pose

Then we went to another permission and had a walk around, saw a couple of rabbits sheltering in a dip,but two of them hopped into the hedge, but one thought he would do the old don't move and he won't see me,unfortunatly for him i had seen him,so a standing shot because the ground curved down and away,it was about 40yds and it was shot through the neck,Jake went straight in and brought it to me where it was swiftly dispatched, not the biggest, but should be tasty :good:

Then it was onto a small cut where i have had a load of woodcock this season just gone, but as i was about to climb a gate i noticed one of the Shetland ponies the farmer breeds on its side by a ditch, and it wasn't sleeping,i popped up and told him and he came down with the tractor, and removed it so the rest of the herd wouldn't see it,he thinks it might have been colic, but there was some lightning last night with the rain,so that's a possibility.

It was becoming overcast and a mist was moving in,so decided to have one quick walk down,as the cut opens up to a small meadow a coupe of pigeons took off,got my bead on one and pulled the trigger,it folded and Jake was straight on to it,i was pleased with the shot, high and a good distance out, nearly on my limit.

Jake looking sinister and now sporting a twotone coat

Pigeon a rabbit are in the freezer, and Jake after his shower(hose down)and rub down is asleep on my legs.

Thanks for reading my long winded write up.I was going out tonight, but the mist is thick so its a bottle of red,and that family size bag of paprika crisps yumm

Great stuff!! Jakes very photogenic!!

Do you mind me asking what's your rifle set up?

It's a cz 17hmr with a Nikko Sterling nighteater euroseries 3x12x56 ir,scope is very nice on this rifle, and is good for night time as well, using Hornaday bluetips 17gr,rifle loves them.Bipod is a 12" to 25"swivel great for just sitting and using the bipod.

The poor old .22 gets left in the cabinet because i like the versatility of the hmr.

Good stuff, I've got the same scope to go onto .22lr but not fitted it yet, did you have to use high mounts?

Must admit you chaps on here are really making me think about binning the lr and becoming a hmr boy!

I had to use high mounts, zeroed at 35 yds then out to 100yds, the .22 is only used on a golf course where there are houses and the .22 is silent, but the hmr is the way to go, you know you want to,

Better trajectory, longer reach, mind you head shots on a rabbit are interesting after the .22.
