Hi All,

Yes the topic is a mouthfull to pronounce. And even harded to accept.

Unfortunatly it is a very aggressive form of cancer in blood cells and our dog `Honey` has it.

It initially started of as a suspect soft tissue injury to her back hock. When it became larger in size our vet suggested we have it removed (the lump). It was sent away for tests and came back as positive. To decide if we were going to remove her leg we needed to find out if this was the primary site of the cancer, or indeed if it had spread. We had to have an organ scan and a chest & heart x-ray carried out at the Glasgow Vet University. We were devistated with the result. She has indications of it in in both her lungs and it is only a matter of time.

We are just about coming to terms with it.

Do any other members of Pigeon Watch reading this have had any dealings with this nasty piece of work.

It is our intention to give Honey all that care that we can. We have decided not to go down the treatment route as this will have the unfortunate side effects and we dont want her to suffer unnessary discomfort and stress.

Although Honey has not been trained to the gun we kept a pup of her first litter and she is shaping up well. We were intending to breed her again this year but we now wont.

I know that a lot of people who are on Pigeon Watch use there dogs as a tool of the trade / sport and I have no problem with that but Honey is our family pet and I would go as far to say our dogs are very much part of our family even substitute for children. We know that at this time in our life we dont expect our dogs to outlive us but Honey is only 5 this year and we expected a good few more years from her as both our previous Goldien Retrievers lived until 13.

Our vet cannot give us an exact time that she will be with us but she is getting spoilt rotten.

Cheers,

BBL

Dear BBL, can't begin to imagine how you feel - a really rotten piece of news for yourself and your family. I haven't heard of this before. My dogs, like Honey are part of my family and 5 is no age is it? You must feel sadly cheated by fate. I hope that whatever time you have left with her is very special, it is really nice that you have one of her offspring that you can look at every day and remember her by in the future. Helen.
