Sometimes so wary and sometimes so daft.

I was out today and for the first time this winter managed to make a a decent bag of 44. Better than my average this season of 2 pigeons per session ( most years my average is about 35 ).

As has been the norn this season , there were few birds about , I saw perhaps 60 all day , but they came into the decoys and magnet in ones and twos all day. At times they were very nervious , but at other times commited sucide. I went out to adjust the magnet and standing in the open 5 birds almost landed on my head swinging around me several times before realising I was there , but at other times while in the hide they flared way out across the field and the slightest movement.

I had some similar pigeons today, decoying on some flattened maize. Some dropped straight in from a great height, even when I was out picking up, whereas others jinked away at distance - seemingly spooked by my rotary. Very interesting, maybe some experienced and inexperienced birds, who knows? Still an enjoyable day as I haven't been out decoying for ages, and the last few times barely shot more than 3/4 birds. Still only managed a dozen today and a couple of rooks, but it wasn't a bad return for the amount of birds about and shots taken.

Also, I would add I bought rotary a while back (finally took the plunge Protom) and have used it a few times on rape with little apparent success, but today I think it made a real difference - shame the battery died mid afternoon.

I had my first decent bag of the year on osr on thursday. The flocks seemed to have broken up a touch. I used 2 magnets, 10 pro decoys and 6 fuds. The pigeons decoyed superbly well, coming in ones, twos and threes. I really think the magnets side by side worked well. I shot 43 for about 55 shots, including several left and rights. I even shot 4 in about 20 seconds at one point.

Hopefully this is the start of the flocks really breaking up and i can start really getting amongst them.
