Went out for does for the cull this morning, I got to the high seat at half 6 to see three deer about 30yrd away,

I managed to climb up into the high seat and load up without them noticing me. Anyway once I was up there they wouldnt string out enough so I couldnt take a shot.

About 30 mins later I spotted a group of four (2 bucks and 2 does) about 500yrds away and thought "this is it"

only had to wait for them coming closer to the point where they cross the fence behind the high seat. Anyway, watched them for ten mins only to notice they were staring at somthing ( I thought they had cought the glint off my mod) so whilst I was trying to figure this out I caught what they were looking at out of the corner of my eye... a group consisting of a big buck and two young does walking towards me about 60yrds away. I stuck my rifle out the correct side of the high seat to take aim.

The buck calmly walked to the fence, whilst grazing away, and he crossed it and lay down on the other side just inside the forest. The two does wandered about within 60-100yrds for a while whilst I, rather noisely, adjusted to get the first in my sight. As I got on to her I could see she was a "she" and was a little pregnant, its a cull though, at that point she did a little stretch, exposing her neck, and i took the shot and she went down instantly. The second doe looked a bit confused at this and did a slow circle of aout 100yrds at which point she went to look at her fallen friend and pressented a perfect shot so another 55grn v-max put her down.

By this point it was half 8 and very light, so I decided that I should call it a day. Further inspection of the carcasses reveiled that the first shot had totally destroyed the first 3 inches of the spine and damaged the skull and the second shot had wrecked both lungs of the second doe. The first doe was pregnant with twins but only very small sacks but a healthy beast, the second doe was empty again though still healthy apart from the front left knee being slightly swollen (nothing bad or sinister though), so two deer closer to the cull target.

Also meant to mention that the second shot was about three inches high but i think its down to some of my factory rounds being almost 1.5 mm shorter than the others(if that sounds plausable) so thank god Ive gone onto homeloads as of today.
