gixer1
Folks, Was just wondering what peoples experiences are with ricochet using 22 WMR? are they bad for it in the same way as 22LR? I just picked up mine today and wondered how it will be if a rabbit was shot say at the bottom of a dry stone wall etc? do the bullets fragment like a CF round or will they bounce? Regards, Gixer
hunters_return
Hi Gixer, I use the remington premier ballistic tip rounds. Have had a few bouncers if shooting to shallow on hard fields but nothing like the amount you get with the .22lr. I do have 250 rounds of hollow points but have never used them, i would assume they would ricochet more than the ballistic tips do. 6.5shooter
Hi Gixer, I used to have a 22 wmr. They will ricochet if fired against stones. I used 40 gr cci's and 50gr federals before switching to Remington 32gr ballistic tips. I found theese to be the most accurate bullet that I tried and i suspect there will be less chance of ricochet being lighter and ballistic tipped. I found at night with using theese they were like a tracer bullet and could watch the bullet all the way to the target through my scope. ian_in_the_midlands
I found the WMR worse that the 22LR for bouncing. Not enough power to fragment, and more weight to carry the richochet further. I didn't keep with it long - moved up to a centrefire.
hunters_return
Shooter, I am pleased that someone else has noticed the tracer effect with the remington ballistic tips. I like it but have no idea why they do this
