old rooster
Don't wear any decent clothes when walking the dog near water, if by "the cut" you mean canal then get your hep B and tetanus jabs uo to date. We had one (GSD) that got in the river at an early age and couldn't get out again easily due to the high bank. I dragged her out but it put her off water until I spent a bit of time getting her over it. I do a fair bit of fishing so all I did was take the dog along to the lake where the bank shelved gradually. Put waders on and just wandered about in the margins leaving the dog on the bank and ignoring her. She just couldn't resist coming in to see what I was looking at so I made sure I was in water that wouldn't put her out of her depth then gradually went out deeper as her confidence grew. Few goes at that andwe had a job keeping her out of the water, trouble is it's a big dog with long hair which seems to retain about 5 gallons of water when it gets out. For some reson they always make a bee line for you before they can even consider shaking any of it out. Give it a try, you've got nowt to lose. No doubt NTTF will have some great advice, he's helped me loads with the new springer.
new to the flock
You hit the nail on the head OldRooster...nice and slow on a gentle slope with you in the water . Be sure the first few times her feet never leave the bottom. NTTF
old rooster
You hit the nail on the head OldRooster NTTF Praise indeed, well chuffed Seem to be getting to grips with my mutt a bit now, looks like she will be a good little worker. Saw her first pheasant today while we were walking in the woods, didn't seem too impressed but she walks well off the lead and doesn't run on ahead which I reckon is a good sign
al4x
our JR swam at 12 weeks old, the weirdest thing I've seen, I was swimming and the girlfriend passed her in, before she had even touched the water her legs were paddling and she swam as soon as she was in now she's a complete nutter round water you can't keep her out even puts her head under and tries to dive for submerged sticks! very strange for a JR
