stefnc
at what point does someone have to become an rfd? how do these people go on, that are normal sgc holders that seem to be selling guns everyweek? just to elaborate- I mean is there rules in place as to how many shotguns you can buy and get rid of? providing you dont have more than your cabinet can allow obviously. seeker
Probably revolves around the need to register if doing it as "trade or business"? If on a SGC the notifications would soon show a pattern on what they're doing.
Gordon R
The crunch would come when HMRC decided that your hobby had become a business. Very unlikely.
clayman
All Police Forces monitor the number of movements on a SGC. If the number goes over their investigation threshold, the FEO will come and have a chat to see if you are just a habitual gun changer (still a hobby with no "profit element"), or if you are buying / selling by way of trade. If their opinion is that you are trading, you will be asked to apply for an RFD ( no g'tee you will get one as security etc may need improving and there may be other factors that turn you down even if you remain a SGC holder). If you get one, well and good, you can trade subject to any conditions on the RFD, but be prepared to declare trading profits to the HMR&C if you are a dealer. If they decline you, you will be warned that any continued pattern of an excess volume of guns going through you SGC will be a breach of the terms of issue, and you could get a revocation if you dont keep within the Polices advised guidelines on the number of guns they anticipate as a max in an annual cycle.
