Hi guys.

after some opinions on as per title CZ .22 LR 452 Varmint Thumbhole (Laminate Thumbhole Stock)

now im gunna apply far my F.A.C soon but dont worry not about to ask to what ifs and stuff done my home work on that, but been to my local Target club wich has

restrictions on calibre & velocitys

now i was hoping for the said rifle above but in .17 HMR, but this exceeds their rules as in 2000fps / 350(MV) for there range i know it doesnt exceed the (MV) part but does FPS.

so looking at the CZ in .22 reason is that i want it to be best of both worlds as in Varmint as once in a blue moon i can walk with a friend on land and help out

the other is to be able to plink away at my leasure at the club also inbetween disaplines.

now here's the opinionated part, now i know that the FEO wont grant me .22wmr as its a target club. now ive seen ppl there with little toy GSG 5's.

but is the .22lr round accompanied with the CZ .22 LR 452 Varmint Thumbhole (Laminate Thumbhole Stock)be a problem in your eyes or will it have to be a .22L. and does the .22lr come in lead only?

i have spoken to the club Sec and Pres all they say is rules this rules that gun will have to be crono'd by a committee member. A CERTIFICATE WILL THEN BE ISSUED before the ammunition can be used. LEAD BULLETS ONLY.

if this is not a suitable rifle PLS state opinions and if there is an all rounder to the above including T/H stock PLS advise, will look at all walks of life on this matter and critics beliefs,

but must come in to 2000fps and 350(MV)ft lbs.

thanks for looking reading and opinions to follow.

Regards M.

I'm doing my best to understand but I am confused..a HMR is a Non starter under the range conditions.

The .22lr has plenty of lead options and the lead ammo will be well below 2000ft sec. .22lr tries hard to get up to 2000ft sec but doesn't make it, and the fast ones are ALL copper coated, ...lead would melt and become unstable, and most .22lr are 1-16 twist which does not favour FAST ammo!

Varmint tools come into their own on the range, but are still hardly necessary for a .22lr (unless you are considering serious competition), they are also monsterous great lumps to carry around the field.

Some like heavy guns and get on with them, consider carefully your reasons for getting a heavy barrel before investing!

Cheers Dekers im not in any rush really but homework on this kind of thing is a must so i dont buy the wrong tool for the job as i have 6 mths probation to go through. just a little bit of time lol but plenty of options to consider also looking at a savage arms mark ii btvs .22 lr these 2 rifles apperance look quite simalar to each other.with close stats to compare.

The varmint barrel would be a good choice particularly if the majority of your shooting is going to be on the range, basically because the forend has a wider base which is better suited to bench resting.

Remember that if you also intend to do vermin control you will need to enter the details when applying for your FAC. Otherwise your certificate will probably have a condition saying that the rifle may be used only at approved ranges. You will also need to check,if you have'nt already done so that the land is cleared for rimfire. Tbh i would see your mate and ask if you can get written permission from the land owner. It will make your application easier. Hope this helps :good: .

Would a 22 WMR not be within the club rules you mention?

Just noticed the FEO won't grant it! That seems strange?

i was talking to a old boy there who said he was a ex FEO + with club rules Lead only, so i just ruled WMR out on that basis.

have tried this way pat g friend has sole rights only with land owner,he wont grant permission only as a helper with friend only. :( wich sucks really coz it would be quicker but i gotta respect his wishes.

Not really sure what the problems is here. Just apply for a .22lr and then get the cz452 in .22lr, you cant really go wrong with one of them. If people at the club are using gsg-522's then the range is fine for .22lr.

not sure why you are applying for a fac before being a full club member? I applied for my first FAC after being a member at my local club for 2 years. I was granted .22lr no problems. Im guessing there will be a 6 month probation period at the club.

All .22lr bullets are lead, some super-sonic rounds are copper washed, but still lead.

i would apply for a .22lr first. then if you get permission in the future to shoot over land then you can look to get a .17hmr.

Good choice on the Varmint thumbhole stock :good: it's lovely to shoot. I have one myself.

If I were you I would consider the new CZ 455 varmint thumbhole in .22LR, the new 455 is the long term replacement for the 452 and comes with interchangable barrels so you could always add a .22WMR or .17HMR for it at a later date. Check out the comparison here http://rimfireshooting.com/index.php?showtopic=5354

Not sure where you're based but once you have your FAC perhaps shop round for a club which are less smallbore dedicated and shoot a wider range of calibres?

im not applying for FAC before i become a full member! and yes ive got 6mths probation to do first. just asking for opinions on said rifles, as its what im looking for when i become a full member

as people out there esp on PW Forums might use these particular rifles for ie:- Varmint or target and asked for opinions?

ok well the CZ rimfires are always a safe bet. cheap, reliable and accurate. Three words that rarely appear in the same sentance.

I have a 452 varmint in .22lr myself, never had any problems with it in its 4 years of service. I use it for target shooting and hunting alike. groups well with subs, mainly use eley. I am also going to be looking at the cz455 in .17hmr as my next purchase :good:
