Biggest
What's the best decoy pattern when there is little or no wind? I know its better when there is a good wind but I can only get to shoot at weekends and I like to get out as much as I can. Its also my first small permission so what to show willing as it might lead to more fields to shoot over. Was out this morning and there was hardly any wind and not many pigeons about and was wondering if there is a certain pattern for these situations. TJ91
no matter how light the wind they will land face into it i use the traditional horseshoe shape 99% of the time sometimes place 2 random groups 15yrds apart on winter rape
MK38
As above, you still want any Pigeons to land in a kill zone so try to funnel them into it. Though as you say their are very few about , i doubt it's worth even setting up..... at least with all the gear. If no birds are about, then it doesen't matter how much gear you have ..... you can't shoot at what isn't there ! You might be better off just taking a few shell decoys and a camo net and having a stroll about the farm, setting up anywhere you see crop damage... if nothing shows, move onto another part of the farm. At least that way you will be keeping the farmer happy by turning up and may even do some good keeping birds off his crop.... you never know you might even get a few Pigeons for your trouble. soontjen
best thing to do if your unsure is get a dead wood pigeon and put a rod i use a piece of 4m fibre glass . straight through the bird' body up into the head with the wing;s broken hanging down face it into the wind .. never fail's just try it only 1 bird susspendid above the ground about 4 , 5 inch's the wing's will move in light wind if broken i do this most of the time and it work's just add the pigeon's as you shoot them can't get the pattern wrong with one ..
