The Duncan
Talk about the blind leading the blind! I took my mate out after some woodies today - he's only ever done clayshooting before never been after live quarry so I said I'd show him what I'd been shown by a few decent guys off PW and that I'd found worked. As it turned out, todays lesson was patience! It was a lovely still day, sunny and warm. Big powder blue skies, almost entirely devoid of any avian life! Bruno22rf did warn me that it'd be a waste of time with Pigeons. He was dead right. No birds, not a single one committing to the decoy pattern. My mate still had a good time and is keen on going out again which is a plus As I pointed out, if you can cope with the slow, frustrating days and still have fun, the good days will be a blast
JustJon
A day in the sun beats a day in the house... The office... Or the bloody shoe shop with the missus!
The Duncan
You're not wrong Jon! Even if pigeon decoying descends into little more than an armed ramble
Clamps
We all have days like this - it happens sometimes - that's all part of shooting.

Remember they still have to feed.
The Duncan
Sunny and still days don't mean no pigeons. Remember they still have to feed. That's what we kept saying to ourselves "they have to feed some time!". Over 5 hours and a total of 10 birds seen, mostly in the distance

The Duncan
Sunny day today, light winds......a grand total of 7, four missed and 5 crow type things. .......and I loved it, first time on my own Magic darts One thing I noticed today when watching the woodies as I went about my business was that they are eating lots of leaf and blossom buds from several different tree and bush species so rape is now lower down the list on their menu than we would like. Their diet seems to broaden massively once spring gets properly underway. That said, a farm not to far away from me is about to drill linseed, so I've got to speak with the farming contractor to get his seal of approval. Hoping for some good luck with this one
shoughton
Seems quite late for linseed - ours went in about 4 weeks ago! They were all over it within a day but then totally off of it within 3 or 4 days max - so make sure you get onto it quick! Good luck Steve
The Duncan
Luck was not on my side- farm owner said yes, employed farmer said no. He's keeping the shooting for himself and mates (reading between the lines).
