Bleeh
Wow. That's a heck of request to ask someone to do, I've been pretty on the ball with foraging skills for the last few years, and I still feel like I know nothing. It's also something I very rarely 'go out to do' it's often a by-product from shooting or walking the dog, etc. If you want a nice, easy start I (VERY) highly recommend these books to get a newby started. Mushrooms Hedgerow Don't let the 'River cottage' label fool you, they are written by John Wright who is a brilliant, informative, and at times very witty author. Dekers
Buy a book/books! There is plenty in the wild to sustain you, but on the mushroom/fungus front be very careful, some of the tastiest can be easily confused with things that will kill you. When you have reached a level then perhaps you can share/explore your experiences with others and grow further!
jimthefish
I love mushrooms and my first year foraging was a good one. Just start with the easiest to identify first like the shaggy ink cap or the parasol mushroom.
Panda
Collins Gem - food for free. It's a really handy pocket sized book which comes with me every time I go camping/walking. Pick it up in Waterstones for about a fiver.
FalconFN
Collins Gem - food for free. It's a really handy pocket sized book which comes with me every time I go camping/walking. Pick it up in Waterstones for about a fiver. There is a book called 'Food for Free' by Richard Mabey which is very good, and another vote for the River Cottage nushroom book which is excellent. I also have a book by Ray Mears which is ok but it's full of waffle.
