dougall
That'll do you well enough. I would say; 1.breakgun down 2.quick squirt down barrels, and quick scrub with bronze attachment. 3.Pass patches down barrels until come out clean(always push through in same direction as shot travels...ie down)! 4.quick wipe around all metal bits with slightly oiled patch/kitchen roll 5.If gun not going to be used for a bit apply very light oil to woolmop and pass that once down barrels leaving v.thin film in barrels(will look a bit smudged) 6.Store gun Barrels down in cabinet. 7.BEFORE SHOOTING next time run a dry patch through barrels once to remove all oil(lots of oil can cause extra pressure). Dont oil wood,if you have an oiled finish wood, occassional hand rub with walnut oil...but again sparingly and rub right in. Berettas take being left dirty quite well but I would say do the above after every outing. ATB.

Dekers
Most shotgun propellants are VERY corrosive, it is not copper deposits etc down barrels you need to shift as in rifles, it is primarily all trace of the propellant in shotguns. Clean every use unless you want a pitted barrel/block!
Beardo
I was under the impression modern shotgun propellants aren't that corrosive, far less of an issue these days
Dekers
I was under the impression modern shotgun propellants aren't that corrosive, far less of an issue these days They are getting better all the time, but the primary reason for cleaning shotguns is still to get rid of the propellant residue, there is generally very little else to clean from a shotgun. Many carts still have a propellant base related to nitric acid I understand! Cleaning an O/U, SBS is probably a 10-15 minute job if done regularly, not worth skipping if you value your tools! HDAV
I know Black powder eats bores but with chromed bores and newer propellants serious pitting is less of an issues still good to give them a quick clean i use some solvent/oil (Legia at present) and a boresnake no faffing with jags and patches etc...
