HI Guys.

Hello I am new on here. I have been looking at a 2003 Toyota Hi-Lux 270 Double cab 2.5 ,I am pretty sure, D4D with 144000 miles on the clock. It is very clean inside and out and will have a years' MOT and full service history. Can those in the know pleaes give me an idea of the value?? I am looking for it to double as a shooting and private vehicle and as our current permission is about 2 hours drive it must be reliable.

Many thanks in advance

HI Guys.

Thank you for viewing my post. This is the discription of a vehicle at a local garage. I think he is charging too much and I just wondered what you may expect to pay and if there were and problems I should look out for owing to the fairly high milage.

Have You had a shifty on autotrader or had a look at trade guide etc?

I am scared to death of such high mileages - but alot of people get good value from a car like this.

144k and being the type of vehicle it is, its always a gambe - but Toyotas are pretty damn indestructable.

they do seem to have a reputation that means dealers can charge silly money for them. At that mileage 8 years old from a dealer he is probably asking for 5K plus

as a guide I bought a 1 owner L200 with full history and 60k on it for 6K its a different motor you'll hear all sorts of reviews but may be worth a look as you get a lot more for your money.

If you go for that one check its history adds up and what has been done. If its not had a clutch that won't be far away, check the cam belt interval (assuming it has one) and when last done. If its not got much history etc I'd walk away with fuel prices the way they are there are a lot about to choose from

Thanks guys.

I have only been looking for a short while, mainly as I am getting rid of my Sprinter fairly soon. al4x The L200 was on my shortlist and as you say you get a lot more for your money, and it is a very good vehicle, but I noticed this Hi-Lux in a garage and Good point about the clutch, which has just gone on my Sprinter :/ As you say there are plenty about He is asking a fair amount more than your estimate. The cam belt was changed at 90,000. Devon Fox Yes this high milage scares me too but as you say they are reputed very tough. It is too much money to take a gamble on methinks.

I may wait and see if any Hi-Lux owners post a reply.

Thanks again.

simply they have a reputation people make the most of, mileage wise they will do a fair bit if looked after but you end up with lots of niggly stuff going between 150 and 200 and thats assuming nothing big goes wrong. I thought it might be a fair bit more than 5K and to me thats fairly ridiculous but they do hold value which is a trade off you have to think about. Personally I wouldn't pay that for a vehicle on that mileage, keep looking and don't discount private buys mileage isn't the be all and end all try and buy on condition and history but there are loads of the crew cabs about that have been used as cars not working vehicles and some very good buys out there.

Im a commercial sales manager for Toyota and deal in Hilux allday every day, they are very good trucks and an 03 will have the D4D engine which is very strong, i wouldnt worry about the engine as long as its been servied when required, the cam belt change was done a little early and the intervals are 100k or 10 years as for values if the vehicle is a clean truck it should be worth 4-4500 :good: , I would avoid the Navara and L200 both have various engine faults with the Navara blowing cranks and the L200 blowing heads, i purchased a one owner 2003 L200 Warrior today that had done 166000 miles and that has had an engine rebuid i looked on the trader and advert after advert mentioning new engine or engine rebuild!!!! to give you an idea i paid £2450 for the L200 (no vat) and that was fully loaded.

You can get a replacment clutch kit fot the 2003 Hilux for about £140 from a main dealer (ask for the "opti fit" clutch) thats a cheaper alternative than the toyota genuine part but you still get a 12 month warrenty on the parts :good: and it should take about 3 hours to change it.

Hope this helps. :D
