steve_b_wales
I use a Blaserlite scope mounted lamp/IR filter when using my Cobra Merlin, which is excellent. This allows me to cleary see quarry up to 200 yds. However, despite it being lightweight, it's a bit big, and I would like to get a smaller lamp for it. What is the best one to get, that an IR filter can be bought for? Steve.
wymberley
Hi, Good question! I have a similar set up except my scope is a N550 which has the doubler fitted (same IR). Trouble is, it's likely that long range probably means big. Hope I'm proved wrong! Cheers
steve_b_wales
I do have an option of fitting a smaller flashlight, and making my own IR filter to fit it, as I do have some IR sheet available, but I would prefer a 'proper' one. bennyblanco
If you have the money a laser will pee over most lamps and is about the size and weight of a small marker pen, the n1000 is pretty cheap now too.

The reason I did not choose a laser, and I agree that they are good, is that the beam would be seen, not only by myself/others, but the quarry (mainly fox) that I would be aiming it at. Steve. Steve. They are much less visible than a filtered lamp from the front imo. The only place they are visible is very localised to the target area and even then its just a pinprick of dull red light, I admit that from experience some foxes find the light irritating but its rare they get to see the light for very long :yp: Certainly you or anyone else is not going to see the laser beam unless you point it a few feet away which will cook your monocular. Not being funny but are you mixing up visible laser pointers and IR laser illuminators? ben Edited May 1, 2011 by bennyblanco
