The Hatsan O/U are cheap but not as cheap as you might think, plenty to choose from around the same price including Lanber and secondhand "superior" makes such as Winchester and even getting into Miroku/Beretta territory.

Personally this is the sort of thing i would look for http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/101223111455001 or http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/110416163214641 (Beretta for Hatsan money!) Less warranty and not new, but will hold value better and probably last longer!

yes i have my eye on one on guntrader for £545 really nice wood and looks nice

I handled one of these at a gundealer on Saturday for an rrp of £600 its about as cheap as an over under gets.

The spec is not bad either you get multichokes and a recoil pad that looked like a knock off copy of a Kick-eze sporting recoil pad, admittedly theres 3 years waranty and the woodwork was reasonable if plain but a at the end of the waranty period time?

This gun is fairly new to the UK and while The Hatsan Escort has become the architypical cheapest available semi auto, only time will tell if their over & undersare going to be reliable or not. My personal experience of turkish guns suggests not but then you will find several people on here that will swear that they have put 5000 shells through their "hatstand" without either a jam or the aplication of a cleaning rod.

If I had to buy new for that sort of money i would advise a Baikal proven reliability if as little agricultural.

If you are looking to buy a proper rough gun though why not spend the money on a slightly old and battered gun from one of the makers where you know the gun is built to last- my 1989 325 Browning for example has a few scratches on the blueing, the woodwork doesnt match very well ( i think its had a replacement fore end at some point) and can only be worth £600 but it could take a few more scratches and would still be worth £600 in 5 years time. A a new Hatsan bought this year and scratched up over the next 5 years would then be struggle to be worth £150.
