Paul T
Any solid sided box, wood or plastic will do, to keep out draughts. It needs to be about 10-12" high. Staple some wire mesh over a wood frame to make a lift off lid. Hang a heat lamp (fleabay for mine) over the top and Bob's your uncle. A brooder doesn't need to be anything complicated. For the first week I keep my chicks on newspaper sprinkled over with chick crumbs. Then I move them onto wood shavings with crumb in a feeder for a few more weeks. My first lot are well grown on and moved outside last weekend. TBH you shouldn't have any problems this time of year - it's more difficult in winter trying to keep the temperature up if they are in an outbuilding. al4x
watch the height of the lamp though so you don't cook them
malantone
A brooder is better with rounded corners,or a cardboard circle about 18" high 3ft across in a shed, or wood enclosure in a building, with heatlamp mounted above, the lack of corners stops them being squashed as they all try and cram into the corner.
