Hi all, went along to Blackpool sporting clays in Elswick on Friday. First time ive been, and thought id give it a mention. There is plenty of parking, and a nice hut for brews and somewhere to sit when the weathers bad. There is a good variety of Traps available, and when we went, it was very quite. Some of the clays were difficult to spot, but once we got the hang of it, we all had a good afternoon. You can buy Cartridges from the site, £4.50 for 25, and clays are marked up at 24p each. The cliker is electric, we had a few 'No birds' and they were knocked off the final clay price. It is expossed, so if the winds up, it will get chilly. Overall, for a site as close to me, it was well worth the trip. :good:

Mike - our last visit was nightmare. We went to shoot 100 each. After 50 - we quit. Traps kept breaking down. The lad who should have been doing the traps was washing a 4 x 4.

Blimey Gordon, you have some rotten luck at these grounds....

I've only ever been to Blackpool once, about a month a go with Mr P and his mate Ken; cracking ground, friendly staff and very few if any no-birds :good:

In all the years that I have been to Blackpool, I have experienced 3 flat batteries, on various traps which were changed within 5 minutes of telling Andy.

No birds seem to be few and far between nowadays, there was a rabbit trap, which malfunctioned a few times but this has now been replaced.

If we are at the very bottom of the layout, a quick call on 07730409415 soon brings Andy if something is not working.

My problems have always been when accompanied by big Nick T - aka Jonah.

On our last visit, one particular trap kept breaking down. Phoned the number - no answer. Button-holed a lad on a quad. He went to the trap - said it was okay - it wasn't. He actually took the leads apart and blew on them. Two of our squad were electricians and were slightly mystified by the technique. Nick suggested he was blowing "magic dust" on to the plugs.   This happened a couple of times. In the end we gave up on that stand.

Told ground owner about it - he mentioned the lad would fix it. We told him the lad - who was washing a 4 x 4 - already knew about the trap breaking down.

Couple of others had more than their fair share of no-birds.

I would certainly go to Blackpool again - wouldn't like to give the wrong impression. It is a good ground - decent targets, parking etc.
