I picked up a Mk4 Hilux double cab this morning and took it home to start preping it for sale, now in general I was really happy with the truck but the front chrome bumber was very rusty (surface) and it really let the truck down.

I thought on the way home about what to do with it, whether to replace it or live with it or try and sort it out.

So when I got back I went inside to check my emails and decided to have a quick look on Youtube under "How to remove rust from chrome" and come up with this I picked up a Mk4 double cab this morning and took it home to start preping it for sale, now in general I was really happy with the truck but the front chrome bumber was very rusty (surface) and it really let the truck down.

To be honest I didn't think for one minute it would work, but I headed out with some tin foil and some coke and set to work and I now have a chrome bumper that looks like brand new!!

It was nearly as easy as wiping off mud, so if you have a rusty chrome bumper get to work and in under half an hour it will look like new

So I didn't get any before and afters but I didn't have a camera with me, I wish I did, I was shocked to say the least...

Good tip but a typical reaction from a second hand car dealer!!

I think you have the wrong end of the stick, what I am saying is I dont think the rust will come back over night, you will always have problems with chrome, but if you can do this to it once a year and clean it up it makes life easier, it is after all only surface rust.

Everything I sell is in good working order, I would not of bought in the first place if it was a shed!
