I want to get flip up covers and was going to get butler creeks but then read on another forum that they are not the same as the old ones and are prone to breaking easily possibly due to a change in the plastic they use, anyway what other types are any good? I have been looking at possibly the hawke covers, they're cheap but are they a load of rubbish - anyone got these?

I went out for yet another set of BC a few weeks ago.

In the shop the owner and myself tried all the 50mm flip ups he had, and only one of them stayed down, all the others just popped back up on their own, and one of them snapped right on the joint when it popped up.

We also tried all the 42mm ones, and they were just as bad.

In his words, "they are not what they used to be".

Over the years I have tried most of the plastic ones, and they all break in the end, but I do have a set of BC's that have lasted me for about three years, and they are still going strong.

Has anybody tried the Leupold Alumina ones?

you know i have used butler creeks for years. however a few years ago i lost the objective cover off my 50mm S+Bender, i think i put three or four new ones on before i couldn't stand it any longer and put the origonal bikini covers supllied with the scope back on. Kept popping open at random all of them, there is certainly something in this then its not just me :hmm:
