What crop in the crop?

I shot a couple of pigeons this afternoon. Their crops were full of what what looked like green coconuts - but about the size of a BB. Very hard. I cut one open and it did have a sort of nut inside it. Can anyone tell me what they were please?

Could be redcurants or black currants they are ripping into them in the gardens and allotments around here...do they smell of Ribena.?

I would suggest they are ivy berries too - have one end which is a very distinctive shape a sort of shallow inverted cup with the remains of the flower - very hard, berries are dark green. Cherries are more circular and have no depression at the bottom. I cannot think birds would eat unripe cherries when there are ripe Ivy berries but then I've not seen it.

I'd also suggest they are cherries. Got cherry trees on four of my garden shoots, and the woodies love scoffing them, mainly in the mornings and evenings :) They don't taste of cherry though  the pigeons, that is :P
