Browning
In my ongoing quest for accuracy, I've been trying to find out when a particular bullet is touching the lands of the rifling, so I can then start to back it off. Does anyone have a "foolproof" method or tool that will help ?
trevor
what i did was load a round with the bullet seated out a long way and then cover the bullet in permanent marker then chamber the round u will see the rifling on the bullet just seat the bullet till it stops marking the bullet but each time u do this dont foreget to cover the bullet in permanent marker. :(
The Sniper
Browning, This method presumes you have a bullet extractor and vernier gauge. Make up a dummy cartridge i.e. case and bullet. Light a candle and use the smoke to mark the bullet head. When it is nice and black pop the cartridge into the breech and push the bolt home. When you extract the cartridge the bullet should have marks on it. Repeat this again, but with a smaller overall length until you get no marks on the bullet. When you have no marks on the bullet you have your overall length. Then you back off to whatever length you require. I usually give them 5/1000 " P.S. I've just seen Trevors reply...........his version might be a bit cleaner to do.

Browning
Unfortunately Dave that would mean having to allow the Mrs into my gunroom, which would mean I then have to start answering questions like:- 1) I thought you only had one shotgun, do you really need all those? 2) I thought you only had one rifle, do you really need all those? 3) What's this receipt here for? Dunkield
As GM says you need a Stoney Point AOL gauge from your friends down the road at Reloading Solutions
poppythedog
Take a used cartridge, using a dremel cut 2 slots down the length of the neck then remove the burrs, this will make a head fit quite easily, chamber the round then remove and measure it with a comparator/vernier, I used to use the marker pen method but the head doesn't stop exactly on the rifling, it inevitably pushes a short way into it. As GM says you need a Stoney Point AOL gauge from your friends down the road at Reloading Solutions GM, Stuartp. This looks like a neat piece of kit, it may help take all the guesswork ou of the job. Also, I didn't know they did Stoney Point products at Reloading Solutions. :(

Unfortunately it's too late. She's got the dogs nuts remy 700 .223 fully tricked up with a nickle supra scope. And the bitches tits .243 riflecrafted remy 700. And the CZ .17hmr I've got the Ruger 10/22 (hasn't everyone) CZ American Classic .223 And Parker Hale .243. So you're obviously right. :o I'm allowed to have guns provided they're not as good as hers and she doesn't need a patio  Dave
Dead-Eyed Duck
To quote the old saying that a shooter says to his mate on his deathbed "Fer gawds sake, don't let the wife sell me guns for what I told her that I paid for them".
