Young lab bunny hopping

Hi all,

2 months ago or so I noticed a slight bunny hopping and swagger from my 8 month old black lab bitch when she runs at a medium speed. I've tried to keep everything within

the recommended from the day I got her (limited exercise, healthy weight).

She shows no signs of pain or discomfort, but I took her to the vets for a check up. They said there was slightly restricted movement in her rear right hip but that she was too young

for an x-ray to provide conclusive evidence of hip dysplasia, but the current signs gave 'cause for concern' and suggested I continue with restricted exercise and consider a diet change or glucosamine supplements. The vet said I should X-ray her at 12months.

Really worried about her, she is such a nice little dog and shows real promise. The next few months are going to be long....... ???

Yes - this is an insurance not a guarantee though.

I know a couple of other dogs which canter with a hopping type gait, both over 5 with no problems (yet). Hoping it's just a trait she'll grow out of but gut feel not good....

My Lab had a limp from his front leg at 9 months, again like you said followed it by the book, didnt over exercise him when he was young etc. Vet had him on Metacam for 3 weeks and limited exercise on lead only no improvement, Then had him x Ray'd for elbow dysplasia which didnt really show anything. Then they had him on a course of five injections(cant remember the name) About a month later the limping seemed to stop and he's been fine for the last 9 months. Vet suggested all along not too panic and it could be a growth phase...So although its gonna be an anxious time it might not be that bad! I'll find out the name of the injections if you want them.
