njc110381 Posted June 13, 2011 Report Share Posted June 13, 2011 The 40g #1 will be plenty at 30 feet. Just aim at the head/neck area and it will go down no problem. I shot one with 16g #6 out of my Hushpower .410 a while back and it died cleanly. It was only ten yards or so away but it goes to show the power a shotgun has at close range. The bigger shot is better but if you can get in that close that the pattern hasn't really started to spread then pretty much anything will do.
