vulpicide
What do you want to work him to ? get a locater collar and box or you will end up losing the terrier there are probably more terriers lost after rabbits than fox.As already stated because of their nature they need a firm hand sort out the obedience before they are taken into the field a bit late now I know but it must be done or you will end up with a terrier that you cannot let off the lead. dazza
If it's onto rabbits now that's all it will be good for.
GW80
If it's onto rabbits now that's all it will be good for. Why? At 5 months this dog is only a pup, Mistakes can be ironed out easy at this age. Op has maybe got his dog going to early but at 5 months it;s not to late! But as suggested get a collar and tage for him.
vulpicide
I think you will find that if you start a Terrier on rabbits and its going to ground after them this will be near impossible to correct if you want the terrier to work fox without wasting time with rabbits. When we train our terriers they are out as pups as soon as their vacs are effective but all they see being worked are foxes this is how we FIX the fox as their quarry if you do it right you will have a terrier that will disregard Badgers and Rabbits and remain staunch to fox if on the other hand you are going to work rabbits then the pup is doing well although I would discourage it from going to ground after them and make sure its stock brocken and brocken to ferrets you will still need a locator ATB. toka_shigazu
As has been said if you want to make sure of the recall stop it going after rabbits until the recall has been perfected. think there are a few threads on recall training on here, just find what works for you and your dog... Good luck with it.... atb
