May be worth checking the battery to see if it actually accepted the charge.

Hi, The following assumes that the batteries are in good condition. Either battery will be fine, just that the 18Ah will last half as long again as the 12. The best answer is to find out what power (you may need an electrician mate with his multimeter) the rotary is pulling and then you'll have a more accurate assessment of battery charge life. The easiest way to solve your problem is to try a known good battery (car?). If it's still slow then unless you can get replacement parts, you're right, it's bin fodder. If it spins as normal, then one or both of your batteries are either flat or duff. Cheers

A lot i have seen use a ford motor, so take a pic and post it up on here, if it is a w/screen motor type it will be a cheap fix. TEH
team tractor
Test it off your car battery, costs nothing to try then plus if that starts your car it means it should be ok . Remember a 12 v car battery actually kicks out around 14.4 v on start up
bigrob
Make sure your charger is capable of charging up to 18 ah or you will only get a half charged battery.
