Baiting for Fox

Where did you get the information from please?

You are really asking the question the wrong way around.

As a general principle under our legal system everything is legal unless there is a specific law or legal precedent that bans it.

Therefore, if someone tells you it isn't legal to bait a fox, or any other animal, ask them to tell exactly where it is forbidden. Sometimes it might be a bit tricky to find, but it will be written somewhere. "My mate got it from a man in a pub who read it on an internet forum..." doesn't really prove anything.

Hope this helps. :good:

Natural Englands note on the control of the Red fox in Rural Areas, it specifically mentions the use of baiting and middens for the attraction, snaring and shooting of foxes. I guess if it were illegal, that advice would not be available - I'll check for other advice legislation but others may be able to be more specific.

Cheers

Fair enough, but surely the better answer would be foy someone to say for definite what is legal and what is illegal to "bait" for!

Probably because it is a minefield of interpretation.

You are allowed to trap many things, commonly using a bait? How do you interpret that, Magpies and Larsens, what about fishing?, so the debate would rage. What is a bait, is it a trap that has been left out to attain the local smells :hmm: , is it your chicken coup which is a natural "bait" for the fox!?, is it the field you deliberately place the expectant and immanently due sheep, etc etc etc etc?

Suffice to say baiting is legal, unless there is opposing legislation! :good:

Just my view!
