Close call for Mr Hedgehog!

Recommended Posts

I'm thanking my luck recently! We were sat in the garden on the weekend eating dinner and there was a bit of movement in the leaves in the corner under an old flower pot. Having had issues with rats in the past I went to the house and got the air gun. I was told when I came back that it looked like a rat, so I loaded the rifle and got my mate to hold a torch to light up the area.

All I can say is the little fella was lucky my .410 is out on loan to a mate. Because I had the air rifle I had to get a pretty spot on shot rather than just blast the leaves where they were moving (lets not forget I had already had my target confirmed as a rat at this point). As I lined up for the shot a head appeared, and it wasn't a rat at all!

I think from now on I'm going to confirm for myself what a target is unless I'm with someone who knows a bit about the outdoors! How anyone can mistake a hedgehog for a rat I'll never know?

He'd moved on today. It's nice to know they're about - any ideas what I can feed it occasionally, or is it best left?

Spikes hedgehog food, endorsed by the british hedgehog society!!£10 a bag from John States in Eastington.

Or look on the website for info, they have loads.

As FM said, no to bread and milk.

A mate of mine works for Mike (funnily enough the mate who's mrs thought it was a rat!). I'll have a word and get him to drop some in next time he's passing.

I had a feeling bread and milk wasn't ideal, which is why I asked. :good:
