Nice work! Stalking to within range is what it is all about. Combine stalking with patience and you have your basic skills. Try tapping the ground with a small stick VERY lightly instead of squeeking perhaps. They drum on the ground with their back legs to get each other to sit up, but as it is a warning sound, it will spook them if you do it too loud. I would far rather be able to get 20 yard shots on a bunny than be able to shoot one at 50 yards. 50 yards is good shooting, but 20 yards is good hunting :good:

Cheers fella, I'll try tapping the ground next time I venture out, might prove hard if I'm on top of that machinery again though, really long stick might do the trick  I'll definitely try it when on the ground though, cheers :D

I'll be trying the same approach on my next outing and see what happens, hopefully I wasn't just lucky

Another one in the bag tonight, bit of a bad shot though so had to run over and wring it, never a nice experience :(

Out in the fields afterwards, I saw two eyes staring back at me :o Looked about the size of a cat & at first I thought it was a rabbit, but eyes where both on the front of it's head. Gave a couple of squeeks and it started bounding over to me :o Only thoughts are that it was a brave fox  ******** off as soon as it got within 30mtrs or so. Mad that a fox would brazenly walk over like that :o

Funny you say that... I was out last night at dusk. First a muntjac walked to within about 30' upwind of me, then a fox walked towards me about five mins later to within 20'. Rabbits I was actually stalking noticed neither of us! After all that I missed the ones I was stalking, only to bag two in the yard as I walked out; as I was using a borrowed 12b and not my light mounted air rifle and couldn't see any longer. :/

Maybe your eyes belonged to a badger? Thay are not easily intimidated by man - but then foxes seem to be pretty brazen these days. I haven't seen a rural one as bold as last nights before, only urbans.

Took a fishing rod and ledger in case I had to climb anything to shoot from and needed to tap the floor! :P:lol:

To be honest I never attempt to wring a rabbit if I have the gun with me, just pop another pellet in and give it a close range head shot, I usually have the silencer an inch away and 'pop', instantaneous.

I know fella, I did try and get another shot into it but it managed to get under some machinery though, it was a gut reaction to jump from my hide and get to it as soon as possible, didn't want the poor ****** suffering any more than it needed to. Maybe the wrong decision, but we learn from our mistakes.

Well I've not had sight nor sound of any rabbits on my permission for a long time now. A scabby, possible myxi infected one bagged a while ago now may be the indication that myxi has made its way through my permission. Good for my farmer, but not so good for my shooting nights out :(

Brushing up my skills on the pigeons with the air rifle recently has proved a challenge though. Camo'd up the Superten and the purchase of a ghillie suit has helped matters, crawling through fields is fun for all of 5 mins  The BBK has proved too loud to attempt close range work on the woodies though. A HW mod has now been fitted though so the superten is nice a quiet, an update will follow when I next get a chance to have a bash on the pigeons, and hopefully people can give me more pointers on what and what not to do when attemping woodies with an air rifle.

Thanks again for reading,

Scott :D

COngratulations on the new permission. Feels good landing one doesn't it!

As for lights, if you go down the LED route later on then have a look on this link. In the accessories they do gun mount kits also, chargers, batteries etc for a lot less than I paid for a clulite 300 lumens one.

Good luck.

Sorry to hijack the thread but which one of these lamps would you rate of this website?
