You mean the very basics ? Obviously all you can do is cast and retrieve but depending on what type you have , what the quarry is and the type of water and conditions . Some hang in the water and you can keep stopping them mid water , some dive when cranked then float again . What do you need to know ? If it IS the very basics then you are better going along with someone at first as unhooking a lively fish with 3 sets of trebles flying about is maybe not for a first outing . Pike are really easy to kill if you do it wrongly .

where i work on the tweed we use raps quite a lot, the 13cm floating ones. as per tweed rules we only use 1 treble and the set up is this== remove treble hooks and front and tail split ring, pierce a hole in the plastic vein with a hot needle, run line through wire eye then through vein, pass line through 1st wire then onto second one (this one has split ring on it)tie on treble hook with split ring attached. to compensate for removing 2 hooks a small twist of lead wire is attached to rear of rap. this set up allows the lure to run up line freely (like a tube fly). cast across and slightly upstream and maintain a steady retrieve, when fish takes keep winding as some times they come and bump it. i have never had success with sinking raps just floaters. hope this helps.
