Don't buy the first gun you see. If you can, try before you buy. This shouldn't be a problem with a second hand gun.

I initially had a lanber, but did not get on with it. I bought a Beretta silver pigeon and the fit is brilliant.

Best of luck.

Tricky one. Only spend as much as you can, but £600 - 800 would get you a good second hand gun. The main thing is fit. You could pay less than £200 and if the gun fits you will love it. Conversely you could spend £800 and its a poor fit, you will regret it.

The main thing is, try lots of different ones before you decide on your final choice. Ask the lads at your local ground if you can try their guns, it would be unusual for someone to say no without a good reason.

Best of luck.

how do i judge a good fit ?

Hi Kitch,

a good gun shop or shooting ground will help. The main thing is that where you see the aiming point is where the shot goes. This link will give you some idea. It is difficult. Like I said earlier, for me the beretta is a great fit, but the lanber was not. I also tried Brownings when I was looking, but found them difficult to mount

:good:

Welcome to PW. Only been on here a couple of weeks myself. Join the throng. There are some real head cases on here.

Go to a reputable shop or better still a coach. It may cost you £60 - £70 a lesson. They will check eye dominance and fit. I went to a good shop and checked a number a couple of years ago. Eventually I bought a Beretta 686E. Tried a Miroku as well. Both were lovely bang sticks but the Beretta fit me better. As I bought it new I got a ten year guarantee. Yea! 10 years.

Have a lesson or two, it will pay dividens in the end. Don't necessarily go to the first coach but check around and get the SP on the coaches. A good one is worth their weight in gold. They will talk you through the safety aspects of shotguns. I was taught by a lovely lady who has shot for England.

Whatever you do, GET INSURANCE. Gun can be covered by household insurance if you inform them and join BASC. The insurance package is good plus you get all the backup of an organisation that supports shooting. You never know when you could need them. Have a look at their web site www.BASC.org.uk and find out for yourself.

Above all else ENJOY your shottie.
