Paddy Ashdown joined the Royal Marines in 1959, serving in Borneo during the Indonesian Confrontation and in the Persian Gulf. He would later join the SBS (then called the Special Boat Section) and commanded a unit in the Far East. But sadly he committed sucide and I was also lucky to have survial training with ex SAS Mick Ginge Tyler. Having know him for many years, i just never put it together. It was his daughter who told me in the end. spanj Posted July 18, 2011 Report Share Posted July 18, 2011 There just like you "Human" but military who have gone on that bit extra and passed the selection course which then badges them SBS or SAS or the new SRR "special reconnaisance regiment" Not all what you expect/imagine unless you cross them...otherwise keep them selves to themselves...but you do get a lot of what we call "Walts" waltermittys who say they are/have when they havent even been in the boys scouts. barrelsniffer Posted July 19, 2011 Report Share Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) WE ! ... as in the job i do now..im ex-military,now a civvy yet have done 1 yr afghan then 5yrs iraq and at present 2 yrs back in afghan in helmand as a contractor...and seen plenty of "WALTS" in my time..who always get sussed out and shown the door.
